Cockatoo Cup
Cockatoo Cup
Hi Guys,
Here is the latest update of the points table. At the meeting last Thursday night Balmain Bowling club offered to host the Gala Day at the completion of our competition, as I had not received a reply from North Ryde R.S.L. it was decided to accept the offer from Balmain. The Gala Day will be held on Saturday 25th May commencing at 9.00 a.m. The cost of the day will be $15.00 per player, this will cover a sit down lunch in the club. Team managers will be responsible to collect the money from their players.
There will be 3 games, 2 before lunch and 1 after lunch, sides will be drawn out of a hat and is restricted to players who have participated in the Cockatoo Cup. Each
club will nominate 6 players, the format will be turnaround triples and each team will be made up of players from each club. As there are 6 clubs, each team will have a member from each club. Spectators and players who are not in the 6 nominated players can also have lunch at a cost of $15.00, but will need to notify Peter Simms from Balmain prior to the day so as that catering can be organized. Please inform your members about the Gala Day and mention it every week so they don't forget.

North Ryde RSL Community Club – logo (excerpt from the 1984 annual report)
“Being a Returned
Servicemen’s organisation, I embodied the known emblem of the three Services, Viz.,
Rising Sun (Army) Oak Leaves (Navy), Wings (Air Force). The three held together
with a bowl (Bowls Section) pierced with an arrow to represent the Magnetic
Needle pointing North; the area of the Club is North of the Municipality of
Ryde, hence the name North Ryde.
The Emblem may also be
interpreted as interlacing the functions of the Bowls Section – the needle
points North, The Rising Sun is to the right of it, The Sun rises in the east
and passes over the greens (oak leaves) of playing area. The bowl is in flight
so we represent it in action by the wing attached (flight). The ribbon at the
base is in white with the name of the club embodied. White represents peace and
purity.
The whole may then be
phrased: a body of men joined as sports, to enjoy the sunshine of the playing
area, the sociability of each one’s company – in peace love and harmony.”

Major Minor Pairs Final
The finals of the
Major Minor Pairs has been played this afternoon in arduous conditions. The
social players only managed to play for an hour and a half before they sought
the warmth of the club house. David Nelson and Peter (Rocket) Dowling were up
against Jack Lundberg with substitute Tom Pisano for Simon Pleming. Jack and
Tom got away to a strong start taking a ten shot lead. But David and Rocket
weren’t out of it. They fought back to
16 shots all by the end of the 18th end. One shot for each team were
claimed on the 19th and 20th ends. With Jack having the
last shot to play David and Rocket were holding one shot, Jack played it well
and rattled into the head to take the win by one shot.
Congratulations to
Jack and Tom and commiserations to Peter and David. Thanks to umpire Jim for
not leaving his post in the cold and wet conditions.
